St. Eugene wrote a reflection when he was named Bishop of Marseilles in 1837.  The following quote is taken from that reflection:

“Above all, I must humble myself profoundly before God for having become, by his grace, so different from the person I once was; even though, while I should in fact be at the height of my perfection, I am overwhelmed by my need for further renewal – the edifice must be overhauled form the very foundations upward…”

We thank God for we do not have to be perfect.   Like a clay vessel that has cracks and is broken we are at best imperfect, but God who is the master potter can rework the clay, can reshape us,  as long as we remain humble and open to this.  As long as the clay remains moist and malleable the vessel can be reworked and remodeled.  An ongoing process through life.  God’s love is so perfect he will not give up on us if we break and turn away.  Always with hands of tenderness reshaping, remodeling, healing us.
